Courtney Wing invites his listeners into a compelling world of carefree and unpretentious humanity. Adept instrumentation and a strong and resonant vocal style backed by a 15-piece operatic folk ensemble characterizes Wing’s current work. This super group consists of members from Belle Orchestre and Godspeed! You Black Emperor as well as a 10-piece opera collective called Liederwolfe. Together, this dynamic group contributes to Wing’s compositions with symphonic textures so rich they melt even the most bitter-struck hearts.
Since the group’s formation earlier this year, Wing accepted an invitation by the CBC to play an exclusive performance for an intimate audience at a local Montreal studio. The concert would be recorded and later featured on CBC Radio 2’s home page and aired across the country on Canada Live. Listen to the performance here
Following this national coverage, Wing took NXNE by surprise with a triumphant showcase where the group not only played to a packed house but also graced the cover of NOW Magazine and received the critics’ choice nomination for ‘bands to have seen’ at the conference. Such high appraise has resulted in artist feature articles in the Montreal Voir, Montreal Mirror, Toronto NOW, and the Montreal Gazette and has landed Wing a booking relationship with Quebec based agency Bonsound.
Since the beginning of his career, Wing has been invited to perform at such recognized conferences as Pop Montreal, NXNE, Transmission Live, New Music West, and the North American Folk Alliance to name a few. He has completed two albums – “For the Good Times” (2001) and “Starlight Shuffle” (2005 – distributed by Maple Music) and has performed extensively across Canada and the U.S. He currently resides in Montreal where he is putting the final touches on his third release “Bouquet of Might and Fury” – due in virtual and physical stores by March 2009.
